Question 98 Blazer..How to turn off Day Time Running Lights?

Hey i bought a 98 blazer and love it. I want to know how to turn off the day time running lights along with the sensor that turns the headlights on when it gets dark.

On the left side of your dash there is a dome override button. Push it on and off 5 times and it should disable your DRL. Do the same to re-activate them.

I didn't see THAT in the owners manual anywhere! Guess that'll work on a 99 too?

BEWARE!!! I have a 98LT and that dome override crap didnt work. you need a resistor in place of the little senso on the right speaker grille on the dash if that dome-thingy dont work

Re: 98 Blazer..How to turn off Day Time Running Lights?

There is a thread in the S-10 Forum about disabling the DRLs.

When I got my Blazer the DRL and the automatic headlights were already disabled. They did it differently than the s-10 thread shows. From what I can tell mine was disabled by simply pulling the DRL diode from the fuse block under the hood.

They don't advertise it in the manual as in some areas of North America it is illegal to disable your DRL. The permanent fix is to do the diode in the right dash speaker grill and bend the pin in the relay under the hood. I have a 2000 LS and pushing the dome overide button 5 times does shut off my lights.

I just read the dome overide button trick is only good on the 2000's and up and limited on certain 98/99 models. This link will help you.

you will need a 680 Ohm 1/2 Watt resistor. these can be found at Radio Shack for about 50 cents for a pack of 5.

remove passenger side speaker grill on dash. unplug wire from the light sensor (little ball sticking up from the grill). insert resister into plug, and use a zip tie to strap the plug down to the dash. reinstall grill.

THIS IS WHAT WILL THE MODERATOR GUY TOLD ME...TRY IT IT WORKS

Re: 98 Blazer..How to turn off Day Time Running Lights?

I need to try this. The dome over ride works on my 2000 BUT once I turn the truck off and then turn it back on I have to do the dome over ride trick again. Thanks for the links and info!
