compass in rearview mirror question!?
Who knows this?
On the newer models the rearview mirror comes with the automatic dim feature and the compass in the top right corner of the mirror. If I want to convert a older model PA to the mirror with the compass, what would I need? If I buy the newer mirror, is the compass build into the mirror or is it somewhat remote in the vehicle? In other words, is the mirror just equipped with the display, or the whole nine yards? |

As I recall from my days in the chevy dealership its all in the mirror as long as your car already has a power plug for it. The only kicker is the mirror has a wire for the backup circuit that makes the mirror go full bright when in reverse.

Thanks for the info. The only plug I got of course is for the 91 with dimming mode... |

You can update your mirror to a compass mirror. You'll need a compass mirror from any GM vehicle made before 2000. The mirror you have most likely has a 3-pin connector (12V ign., Gnd, reverse override) and possibly a 2-pin connector for outside dimming mirrors. The mirror you'll want has a 7-pin connector (not 16 like those made 2000 and newer). The terminals can be removed from the 3 & 2 pin connectors and inserted into the 7-pin connector in the same order. I've done a few of these updates with no problems. Good Luck.
