Question 92 Grand Marquis Engine Life?

I have a 92 Marquis that the heads just went. I called around various salvage yards and the engine just by chance and poor luck that I need is a 3 bolt starter for that engine not a two bolt which everyone has.

Now for the real question, I found a engine, it has 118,000 miles on it, is there problems with these engines? The one that went bad had about the same miles on it. Do the head gaskets die at that point or near? "Should" this have many 10's of thousands left on it?

The vin says my original engine was made in Canada.

Any help would be appreciative.

Thanks

I don't know if this will be helpful or not, but I have a 98 GrMarquis with 110k on it. I have had absolutely zero problems with the engine itself, but I am zealous when it comes to replacing oil and the fluids/filters. My inlaws have owned GrMarquis anywhere from a 93 on up to an 03. Zero engine problems. I did have a tranny issue, but it was the torque converter, after 90k so not a big surprise. Just my two cents and hope this helps. I don't know of just engine issues for GM's. Good luck!

My '86 had 143K miles and no engine problems when it was sold. (Well, given away actually )

Thanks Guys, I found a engine for it finally 60,000 for 600 bucks, best deal I could find. I was worried those engines maybe wore out around then cause i was about to purchase one with 118000 on it and that was worrying me.

I can live with 60000

Just my two cents on this issue. I had a '94 with 215k on it and the oil pump went on me while I was out of town. Before that, had very few problems with it. Had the EGR passages cleaned once, but that was at about 185k, if I remember correctly. Hope that eases your mind a little.
