pieced together 89

I recently bought an 89 RS, appeared to be in excellent cond, low miles.
After having it for about 2 weeks I have discovered a major wiring issue and that the car has been pieced back together after being totalled in 1992. However, has a strong motor, runs good, needs some TLC and minor interior work. What I really need is a complete wiriing map, most of the wiring has been left hanging, what is hooked up has a mind of its own. Can anyone help me?

Do you have TPI or TBI? and most service manuals such as chliton and haynes have wiring diagrams in the back but I can try and look up one online if you let us know what induction system you have or maybe another 3rd gen guy with one of these manuals can scan the diagram from you. Good Luck. Also Welcome to the forum.

Re: pieced together 89

I have the Hanyes for Third Gen camaros so if you tell me what exact wiring diagrams you need, I can see if I can get my scanner working and scan them in for you and shoot them over. Although it is much worth the money just to buy your own book, comes in handy sometimes, $20 CDN was well worth it.

Re: Re: pieced together 89

Hi Allgonshow,
I would appreciate anything that you can send me, finances are low right now but I do plan on getting a book in future.
The wiring under the dash is hanging, not even sure if its attached at the other end. Dummie lights dont work, problems with wipers and cruise control, has a different temp gauge installed under dash, would like to make the original work. There is a blue switch under steering column don't know why, maybe fog lights? I think the fan has been rewired, it comes on when the key is on. The stereo was hooked up all wrong. The center console has been removed and replaced with a B&M shifter and half of a console. I have alot of work ahead of me, but I think is will be worth it. Time and patience.
Thanks so much for your help.

lol.. thats awesome KC.

*i paid 6 bucks for my Haynes manual.. i got it on ebay. And it is definately worth it. since i've gotten it, i have dramatically saved money doing things myself, i never really was a "do it yourselfer" when it came to cars.. but its really easy for newbies to use..

Re: Re: pieced together 89

Hi John,
Thanks for the welcome. I have a TBI. I need to replace the rubber and weather stripping around the windows, actually through out the whole car, do you know of any good websites as to where I can purchase 89 Camaro parts and accessories? I've also been searching for a good picture of an 89 RS that has not been all chopped up or modified.
As you can probably tell this is my first camaro and I want to keep it as close to original as I can, I also want to do most of the work myself if possible. I don't want to get screwed by ignorance so I want to learn as much as I can about my RS. Do you know where I might be able to get the owners handbook for my car?
Sorry I am bombing you with all these questions, I'm a beginner what can I say.
Thanks for the help
Vicki

Hi KC,
which book would be better Haynes or Chiltons? I'm just learning also, at this point I'm almost clueless...almost... Thank you for the ebay tip.

Re: pieced together 89

Well I will share what I know. I went to Canadian Tire in hunt of a Chilton for Third Gen and the chick said they had it, dumb twit thought I said Hanyes so I ended up getting a Hanyes manual, not too bad actually. I ordered a Chilton manual off Ebay and it will be coming here shortly hopefully so I can let you know which one I think is better. I have no owners manuals or anything so these work out pretty good
