1992 Golf - stalls when cold

Hi, My 1992 1.8 Golf struggles to Idle while cold, and stalls when I come to a stop. Once its been running for 15-20 minutes the problem disappears.

Anyone had this problem, or advice as to what it might be?

Regards
Steven

Re: 1992 Golf - stalls when cold

There is a 1.5" diameter silver cylinder with hoses & an electrical connector right in front of the valve cover that is the idle stabilizer valve. Remove it & clean it out with carb or throttle body cleaner. If you have an multimeter you might want to check the engine temp sensor also. It's in the plastic flange where the upper radiator hose enters the cylinder head, it should be blue. Resistance between the sensor pins should be about 2000-3000 Ohms cold & 200-300 Ohms at operating temp.
