2g gst cutting out or missing in all ranges and gears
I have a 97 gst and ive had this problem for almost four months, and worsening by the day. I took it into the dealer while it was still under the service contract. They replaced the fuel filter and told me that was the problem. I drove it away blissfully ignorant, and it didn't cut out for awhile. When i lay down the gas anymore than to just accelerate, it feels like it's running on 1 cylinder and sputters like an sob. Only when i let off again does it drive normally. Since professionals don't know what it is, maybe you kids can do their job for me. ANY help or advice would be great.

Actualy, there is alot of profesionals on this board, calling them kids will only discourage anyone to help you. Even though we all wish we were still kids.

Re: 2g gst cutting out or missing in all ranges and gears
95% of the time its ignition related. I would say 80% of that time its plugs, the other 15% being wires. It can be other things in the ignition system as well though, and it can be a boost leak (super rich condition). There is all kinds of info on fixing this problem on this board, so in essense, we HAVE already done thier job for them

lol
Sounds exactly like when I was trying to gap my plugs just right.... if it was too big or small of a gap it sputtered under boost... at the worst it felt like he said... running on one cylinder... lol kevins a kid j/k lmao

Re: 2g gst cutting out or missing in all ranges and gears
my eclipse is doing the same thing i think. When I hit the gas hard the car misses, bucks a little... mechanic put in new wires and it is still doing it, he said it could be a faulty turbo .. any ideas???

I doubt it's the turbo...
I would bet it is in the ignition somewhere.... coil pack, wires, plugs... CHECK your gaps!!!

Re: 2g gst cutting out or missing in all ranges and gears
I don't think it can be related to the turbo. Either the turbo boosts at a near constant rate, or maybe it doesn't boost at all -- both times the car will run slower but should run fine. You could have a boost leak at the turbo, as well as anywhere else... check that, gaps, replace the plugs if they aren't brand new (it's only $10, i replace them almost as frequently as oil) and if it still doesn't work, there is a more serious, most likely ignition problem.
