No Heat in 1993 Explorer

Hi,
I have a 1993 Ford Explorer and up until a few months ago my heater worked only on high/full blast. Now it does not work at all. No heat, no defroster, no see road. Any advice on where to start first???

Does it blow any air out at all?

2 part problem:

Heater only working on high - replace blower motor resistor. This is easy to replace, 2 8mm bolts I believe and is a small rectangular looking black box mounted to the right of the blower motor.

No heat blowing at all - replace blower motor. Realitively easy to replace as well.

You can find the blower motor resistor at your local junk yard. One from a Bronco may work as well(this is where I got mine out of for my 93 Explorer). I purchased a new blower motor for about $25 brand new at the local parts store. Hope this helps!

PS:

It is also possible that the blower motor resistor is totally shot now and thats why you are getting no heat. I would start by changing this out before you change the entire blower motor.

Also check the relay under the hood if the blower isn't working. Tap it a couple of times. It is on the passenger side under the hood in the relay box.

Yup, check the relay and the fuses as well, I was assuming you have checked the basics already. You can borrow another relay from something else as a quick test if you don't have a spare one.
