Question need tire help! tire gurus lend me your ears.

I have a 89 crx... Well I just ordered my coil overs to drop it about 1 1/2 inches and in about a month I'll be getting some new tires. So my question is: I want a smaller profile of tire..right now I have 15"rims with 185/60r-15s on them, and they look fat..like to much tire for the rim. I just want alittle more low profile look. Would going with like 195s or 205s be okay for 15''s and would it look noticibley slimmer? Advice needed..I'm alittle new to the tire/suspension game.

Re: need tire help! tire gurus lend me your ears.

ok if you have 185/60r-15s that means that your width of tire is the 185, the 60 is the sidwall and the 15 is the rim size. i dont know the exact ratio but side wall is a percentage of the tire width meaning you might not be able to stick 205 on a 185 rim (i belive 185 is about 6-6 1/2 inches wide while 205 is 7in) so to answer you question if you want a wider tire try to sgueeze a 205 on there but if you want a shorter sidwall most people go with a 50 series tire. If any of this is wrong feel free to correct me cause im happy to learn more

the rims I have are 15" Z racing or some crap like that. They are a cheapo brand of rim I think, I just traded them and 400 dollars to this kid for my konig 17's.

So am I understanding right that if I just want less tire showing from the side I would just go with something like 185/50 instead of 185/60?

thanks for the info mango

the correct tire size for a 15" rim on a CRX is 195/50/15 and it will be noticably thinner. 185/60 tires are the factory tire size for factory 14" rims.

yeah I don't know why the kid had these tires on 15's..he said they were forteens and I even measured them to be sure..no doubt they're 15s.

exactly on the back of the rim it should have the wheel size (15x7 or 15x6) it should be either stamped into the rim or some kind of sticker that givers offset wight and other info on the rim.

For your CRX you could go with a 195/50x15" or a 205/50x15". The later might change your gearing a little but you would have a wider tire.
