Ive just spent $1500 on a rebuilt transmission for my 1996 mazda 626. A week after i got it back from the shop it started cutting off whenever i came to a complete stop our sometimes while in park. I was told that carbon could build up on the idle air control and that sometimes you could hit it with a hammer and the car would idle properly. I did it and it worked. But about one more week later the car began to sputter and stall whenever i mashed the gas. Once im at a complete stop and mash the gas, the car want pick up speed properly, and then all of a sudden it takes off and the transmission revs highly. Is the throttle position sensor our what. Im angry because i have spent a lot of money and im having problem after problem with the guy who did my transmission work even though i have a 6 month warrany of which 5 are left. He keeps telling me that the idle air is not working properly so the transmission wont shift out perfectly. Can anyone give me some advice on what might be wrong with my car or guidance on how to deal this mechanic. I would appreciate it so much. thanks

Re: 1996 Mazda 626/ Sputtering and stalling during acceleration. HELP!
I had the same problem with my 1996 626 after getting the transmission rebuilt. It turned out to be the Mass Airflow sensor. The mechanic told me that the problem was caused by Aamco leaving a vaccuum hose disconnected when they put the transmission back in. I was drivingt it like that for about a week before the problem with sputtering and stalling started occuring. I continued to drive it like that for about another two weeks. My mechanic told me that driving it like that without the vaccuum hose connected ruined the mass airflow sensor. It cost me almost $400 to have it replaced. Once it was replaced the car has been running fine.
