'93 Accord Idle Issues (From Previous Acceleration Thread)
I figured I would just start a new thread instead of tacking on to the other one regarding the acceleration problem, which has now been fixed thanks to a new fuel filter.
I'm the 2nd owner of this car and now has 128K miles, so I am assuming that the previous owner had the timing belt, etc done. The car is a 5 speed and it idles rough when it it's neutral and also when the clutch is depressed and I'm in 1st gear at a light and I am waiting to go. The idle is still rough when the car is warmed up. It's where it needs to be ~500-700 rpms. I believe the motor mounts are ok. I don't see a lot of movement of the engine when I rev it up. While it idles, it vibrates the steering wheel and the whole car. I can actually see the steering wheel moving from the vibrations. If I give it a little gas and hold it around 1000 rpms, the idle smooths out a lot. On a related note, there's some shudder/vibration when the clutch reaches it's catch point when accelerating from a stop going through the gears up until 3rd gear. Here's what's been done in the last month: PCV, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter. Pretty much all the basics. Any ideas or direction in which I could go for a solution? Last edited by Draco959; 01-31-2005 at 08:48 AM. |

Draco, I had almost the same issue with my '93... I don't know how many owners were before me, but the car has about 194k on it now...
Mine was stalling out from the start in neutral unless i almost immediately hit the gas, and if it didn't stall out, it would shake so much i felt like it was about to. Once warmed up, it idled at around 500 - 550, and i was still getting a lot of shake The easiest thing was an idle ajustment. I think the car is getting sensitive with age -- i tightened to where it idles at 650-700 (this is spec for the f22 block thats normally in this year accord) no fail, everytime i let it warm up. I still have some shake, although it is VERY greatly reduced, and the car does NOT like to stay started when its chilly out in the am - For me, at least, it seems that doing that adjustment has worked for me - it took less than 10 minutes I don't know if you've actually tried that - but it's easy and wouldn't hurt to try |

Yeah, my '94 idles at 1200-1500, after the tightening. Just have the idle speed changed. The higher the better (within reason)...unless ur concerned about gas milage

Re: Re: '93 Accord Idle Issues (From Previous Acceleration Thread)
Well, yeah I am concerned about gas mileage, who isn't right?
I played with the idle today. I had the engine warm and when I disconnected the IAC valve, the engine stalled. Restarted the car turned the idle screw a little and then unplugged the IAC valve, it didn't stall this time. Right now when the car settles down it idles at around 800 RPM, it still vibrates a little bit, but it's better than it was before. The check engine light did come on when I took the IAC valve out, and when I put it back in it went away. I turned off the car, turned it back on and took it for a ride, seemed to be okay. Quote:
