Testing Encoder motor
Hi,
Took my 98 Blazer in and the tech said the code showed it was the encoder ( transfer case ) motor that was bad. I already replaced the vacum switch on the transfer case. Disconnect the battery, wait, reconnect, and the lights blink between 4hi & 4lo then go to 2. After that all that happens is a clicking in the kick panel on the passenger side and the button that is pushed lights for a second. I replaced the encoder motor with a used take-off that was supposedly good. Is there a way/place to check the motor to see if either is good? Thanks, Sharky |

The local tech I took it to found a couple of vacum leaks and fixed them. What is a good way to check for other leaks? The heater selector switch will not let it go to the floor either. I"m guesing that is also a vacum issue.
Thanks, Sharky |

Re: Testing Encoder motor
Yip, you have to check all the vacuum hosing for leaks, cranks, splits etc..
I believe we have found you problem, no go out to your truck and snoop around.

Re: Testing Encoder motor
If you still have codes in the module, that will happen. When you verify that the vacuum leaks are fixed, clear the module codes.
The following steps provide an easy way of clearing the module codes properly. Turn OFF the ignition. Remove the 10 amp CTSY LP and the 20 amp ATC fuses from the I/P fuse block. Important: Replacing the fuse before the specified time may result in not clearing the DTCs. Wait a minimum of 60 seconds before replacing the fuse. Once the fuse is replaced DTC 1 will be set in the transfer case shift control module. Cycle the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN and back OFF five times in order to clear DTC 1 from the transfer case shift control module memory. |
