So how fast is the 2005 V6 Mustang?

A friend is considering buying a brand new Mustang but only has enough money for the base model V6. She will most likely buy an automatic. How fast is this car, which cars does it compare to?

I've seen its specs on the internet, but these sometimes do not reflect the real world so I would prefer first hand accounts from someone here who owns one or has driven one or raced one.

I drove one down Sac Raceway......

Best I could muster up was a 15.3 @94mph
They don't seen any faster than the 99~04's that I can tell, that extra 7hp and 10ft-lbs made up for the weight difference. I only had 4 runs in one thou, so I am sure I can get it down some more with practice.

Now I would like to see one with a vortech or Procharger attached to it.

BUT........ I would say it does handle much better than all the SN95's V6's and I think it handles better than my 03 GT when my car was stock. Give the 05 V6 a blower, and I think it would be a good auto-cross car.

Re: So how fast is the 2005 V6 Mustang?

i thought it was 210 hp? and 15 lbs more torque... but whatever. if u were running a 15.3 then its definatly faster than a SN95 isnt it. i thought a manual 99-04 was a mid 15 car, and i know from experience that the manual is way faster than the auto in those cars. thats really awesome about the handling though, i read a article in road&track about how they rebuilt the entire suspension.

I think your right 210hp and 240tq

IMO it should be atleast 230hp and 280tq considering all the "family cars" that are making atleast that much power.

Re: So how fast is the 2005 V6 Mustang?

yeah i know what your saying, the 3.0 ford has makes 210 bhp, but it all comes down to marketing, they cant have the performance of the v6 coming to close to that of the GT. But since it is a 4.0 it should have lots of potential for power increase through mods, and with that price youll probably have the money for the mods too.

I heard that they would be cutting alot lower times, but their 4th and 5th gears(manual) were built for highway crusing, so it drastically dropped what the quarter would have been... I think I read it in MotorTrend.

Re: So how fast is the 2005 V6 Mustang?

I raced an 05 V6, I would fall back in the corners (before I had any suspension mods done) but on the straight aways I would catch right back up to him...

Sorry, they were testing a GT... but if they both run the same tranny, then I suppose their 4th and 5th gears will still be a downfall in the quarter for the GT & V6.

Re: So how fast is the 2005 V6 Mustang?

well i guess u could always get new gears. but i know u can get movin pretty fast before you even get into the 4th and 5th gears, my 00 v6 goes 90 in third, im sure GTs go faster than that. I kinda wish they wouldnt have made 4th a cruising gear tho... thats what i always thought 5th was for.

Re: So how fast is the 2005 V6 Mustang?

my 03 gt, in 3rd gear redlines at 98 mph. in the quarter mile, during normal, or hot days i dont have to hit 4th, only during winter or cool nights i hit 4th gear like a second or 2 before crossing the 1/4 mile. (ohh its stock by the way) and ive been doing 14.3 wich i think is a pretty decent time, i think that on fords website they say its good for 14.1s or something, but i guess thats with a pro driver in the car hehe
