Only to me

Was out washing the car today. It was 72, and sunny. Had to throw that in, only good thing to happen all day.
When I got done, open the trunk to dry edge of trunk. This is my luck. The inside of the trunk was wet. To tell you how wet it was. I took the floor mat out to dry. Noted that there was water on spare tire cover. So, I took that off. Then seen 2" of water in the tire well.
Checked seal for trunk, not a drop. The I looked at the deck lid. Had water dripping off nuts for spoiler. Seems that the body shop, when they romved spoiler to repaint truck lid for the thrid time never sealed spoiler.
Right now the car is sitting in the sun, trying to dry the trunk out. Pulled plugs out of trunk well, and got my feet wetter then when I was washing it.
Now I have to take it back, for the 17th time and let them work on it. I'm so tired of this crap. Should just go out and by a bike.

Re: Only to me

On my SLP spoiler I used some rubber washers between the spoiler and trunk lid, which you can buy at Lowes in the nuts and bolt section, they where with the rubber plugs and corks. The washers are about an 1 OD, 1/4 inch hole ,1/8 th thick. Then over in the nuts and bolts section you can buy a package of bonded neoprene washers to put on the inside of the trunk lid 5/8 OD - 1/4 SCR Part # 35020.

I heard alot of storys about leaking spoilers before I put mine on,so that's what I came up with.I tested mine at a high pressure car wash and never had a problem. It now been almost 2 yrs with no leaks in the trunk.

Re: Re: Only to me

Thanks Larry. Will give them the list of parts they need to buy. It didn't leal a drop till they had to take it off to repaint both times.
Still don't have one coat of wax on this car. If I can keep it more then 2 weeks in between repaints, I will.
Thanks again

Re: Only to me

Some have used this link Click Here ,but I added and changed the way off waterproofing and didnt like the hose seal's.It is nice to have it lifted up, just enough for water to run underneath the spoiler to wash out any debris that might be underneath the spoiler.....oh and I did have to change the length of the bolts also. Here are the instructions that I had posted back in 03 Click Here

Re: Re: Only to me

Thanks again Larry,
Printed everything out. Will give it to them tomorrow. May also give them the number to my lawyer.
These people have done nothing right. I wish I didn't pay them till a couple days later. That would have given me time to look it over.
We'll see what happens. Then I will post the company, so no one else uses them
Also like the Taz too.

Re: Only to me

I also put rubber washers in but coated them all with a thin layer of silicon sealant first. No leaks since.

Re: Re: Only to me

You know when they painted the trunk and spoiler on the other 98. I gave them the washers and print out how to do it. They said it can't be done. He said (sorry about this) "It looks like shit".
I'm just getting tired of and the crap. I have never had this trouble with any car I have owned. And it's not the car, it's the people that are working on it. Wait, this is Florida, I forgot.

Re: Only to me

That is the brightest flash I have ever seen. It's dark here, 7:40 PM.
Couldn't see it in this picture

Yep, this have it. After removing the old ones, that picture is first on my list.

Re: Only to me

Well just got off phone with the body shop. They told me that it's not their problem. They only painted it.
Told them that it was fine till they removed it. He said they won't warrenty the gasket. Asked them if they will warrenty the "peel" I have on the trunk. They told me to bring it in tomorrow.
This will be the last time they touch it. IF it's not 100% this time, I will take them to court and try to get my money back.
Next car will be red again.

Re: Re: Only to me

Went right to the dept head and ass. manager of that dept. BOTH told me it's not theirs. I'm in at 5:30 tomorrow morning. I'll hit there before anyone comes in. I'll find it or go to ACE at lunch.

Re: Re: Only to me

Been printing them out (in word). Going to take them to work, and then body shop. When I get the car back, it's going to car wash. If theres a drop of water in the trunk. They bought it.
