99 Deville heater problems half cold and half hot!!!!

Hello,

I did see the post below for a 94 Deville with a simular problem. The advise was that the heater core was bad. I have a newer Deville 99 and it has the dual climate control. The passanger side blows cold and the driver side is normal. No change if the passanger switch is on or off or the temp is set on the passanger side colder or hotter. Also I can not find a Chiltons manual for this car would it be the same process to change a heater core in a 99 Deville as a 98 as I can find that book.

Thanks in advance,

Fire

Re: 99 Deville heater problems half cold and half hot!!!!

This is probably due to a bad air mix door actuator on the passenger side. I'm not sure where it's located on these Devilles (it might be behind the glove compartment), but you need to grab the arm and try to move it; if it moves, the actuator is bad, and simply needs to be replace. The other possibility is the programmer, which is basically the brains of the climate control system. Hope this helps.

Smile Thank You that was the problem

The actuator for the passanger side was bad. For anyone else with this problem it is located behind the glove box. Take out the six #15 torx screws and pull the box out of the dash. Thanks for the help.

I have a question about the air conditioner compressor on our 1999 Cad. Deville Concours. The compressor was replaced once while under warranty. Now that the car is no longer under warranty, it seems the compressor needs replacement again. Isn't this very unusual? The AC stopped working while we were on a short (100 mile) trip about two months ago. When we got it to the Cad. dealer in town, they said we need a new compressor. Oddly, the AC works at times and not at others. Any ideas on what is wrong? Should we try to get Cad. to replace this compressor? This would be a 3rd compressor in 6 years. We've talked to someone in Detroit and they are only willing to give us a "Loyal Customer Certificate" towards a new Cad.
Thanks for any help.

Re: 99 Deville heater problems half cold and half hot!!!!

I'd have another AC specialty shop check it out first before I had the dealer do the work. It sounds odd that it works on and off and its due to the compressor.

Re: 99 Deville heater problems half cold and half hot!!!!

Thanks, Mark C. That sounds like a logical next step to take. I'll try that. By the way, we did have it looked at when this problem appeared on our trip. The person who checked it fixed what he hoped was the problem. He said if his repair did not solve the problem, then we'd need a new compressor. I guess that's why we didn't automatically get a second opinion. Alice from Dallas

I am having the same problem on a 98 Deville. I followed your instructions & located the actuator. How do I remove the actuator?

If you disconnect the link to the blend door arm and take out the six mounting screws for the actuator motor, it should come right out.

I don't know on Deville's, but if they're similar to other GM's like Buick & Pontiac, then you just remove the lower hush panel on the passenger's side to get to it. It should be below the glove box area and right below the passenger actuator.

Thanks for your help. The passenger actuator (behind the glove box) had 2 screws. They were tough to get to, but once I did the part came right out. The drivers side actuator is located directly below the passenger actuator. Remove the dash panel below the glove box, you cannot miss it.

Thanks again!

Re: 99 Deville heater problems half cold and half hot!!!!

there is an air mix door for the drivers side, and one for the passengers side. These are controlled by the actuators via a mechanical link. These doors are probably in the center of the dash where the blower motor blows the air into the venting system.
