Vibration during acceleration
Hi folks. My steering wheel shakes during acceleration. What kinds of things could cause this?

Re: Vibration during acceleration
I just had the tires balanced and it didn't change anything as far as the vibration during acceleration. I beleive the vibration is always there throughout the RPM range. I haven't had an alignment done. Could it be a motor mount? They were not changed during my motor swap from the D15B2 to my DOHC ZC. I would like to figure this problem out.

Re: Vibration during acceleration
Could also be Wheel bearings or tie rods if you feel it through steering wheel. Maybe a worn ball joint. I don't think it would be a motor mount if its more of a constant small vibration. Motor mounts are clunking noises usually

Re: Vibration during acceleration
Interesting. Seems like I can hear a slight "clunk" if I am at a dead stop in the parking lot and turn the steering wheel right and take off from a dead stop, I hear what appears to be something in the front right suspension slightly "clunk". I've checked the CV axels (only 4 months old). There's no tears in any boots, leaking grease etc... I do have a bit of metalic "buzzing" sound in the gear shift at certain RPMS which led me to think possibly an engine or even a tranny mount? The tie rods are new as well. I'm stumped..... Also looking to do the HF final drive conversion on the ZC tranny to get better gas mileage on the highway... Should I sniff out this vibration problem first?

Re: Vibration during acceleration
sounds to me like the front bars that connect to the front chassis bar....looks like this:
\ / ---- Either your front chassis bar is loose (it's held on by 4 bolts) or one of the bars has come loose.

our 93 integra has a bad mount. it vibrates pretty good...curses to the dohc (lol) for a balljoint you can sit directly infront of the tire and try to shake it side to side. if the tire has much play then your balljoint is bad. you will also hear the tire wobble when you hit a bump. check your mounts and take it from there....

Re: Vibration during acceleration
Sounds good. I'll check the balljoint and then peek the front bars. Now, I'm no mechanic I'm an audio and electronics guy so can you be a little more detailed on which bars to check? I'm capable of checking for loose bolts and tightening them though.

You folks are so awesome! Thanks! I'll print this and put the Rex on the jack stands and see what I can find out. Hope to get it figured out soon!

what about axels? they clunk when you turn and could cause a vibration if they are bad enough...check for torn boots

Re: Vibration during acceleration
i have almost the same problem - i got my tires balanced and got an alignment, and it doesn't vibrate as bad but when i brake and sometimes during acceleration it can vibrate plenty. I'm probably going to replace this suspension soon...and fix all these problems within the next few months.

Re: Vibration during acceleration
The axels are 6 months old. Suspension was replaced with Tokico Blues (spring and strut kit) I have the factory steelies. I'm leaning toards the radius rod right now. Funny though... it's raining here today and she rides smooth as silk. Could this be a tire balance problem? maybe the water on the roads is providing a bit of a cushion from the vibration? This is weird.....
