I'm not sure which years had a post cat O2 sensor, if it doesn't have one you can gut the cat but it would be better to remove it and replace it with a straight section of pipe, a hollow cat can sound bad and it disrupts the exaust flow. If it does have a post cat O2 you'll need an O2 simulator to fool the PCM into thinking the cat's still there. If you need the "appearance" of a cat on the car you can replace it with a pipe and place the hollow outter shell of the cat over the pipe so it looks like you have a cat still installed.
As for the TB bypass you'll gain a few hp, especially when it's warmer. There's no negatives, only positives to doing it so I say go for it.
For other simple mods you can get a cold air intake and a cat-back exhauts system. If you wana do a little more than that you can get a good set of headers too.

Re: TB bypass and other stuff

i just ordered the other day a air intake system but it only replaces the old air box with a cone filter do you think that will make some diff? or do i need to make an extension to let it take cooler air?

this is a 1995 lt1 bird. i have also been having trouble with the exhaust manifold from the engien i need to but a gasket between the engien and the manifold....... its the left side when i look down in the hood. do i need to remove alot of things to get the gasket in place and ready?

Re: TB bypass and other stuff

Hope this helps. http://shbox.com/1/tb_bypass.jpg . Also steering linkage and brake master cylinder vacuum hose are the only things I can think of you need to install a gasket and remove the driver side manifiold.
