I wrote awhile back that my blazer wont shift into auto 4 4hi or 4lo when I tried the light just flashed for 30 sec you said to check fuses and vac lines it wasn't any of those I went to a shop he looked at it and said it is a cable that there is no vac don't sound right to me . the parts guy told him if any of the cable is exposed that it wont work it should move with justslight pressure from finger tips does this sound right to you. please help as I am handicaped and on a fixed income and can ill aford to spend 100.00$ on a cable that doesen't work. also there is a huming sound from right front tire the sound changes when I turn the wheel slitly from left to right while driving I'm told wheel beering needs replacing. I'v got 70,000 miles on it and have allready replaced the pinon beering isn't that to soon to go out sorry it's so long thank's for any help you can give me. ps mom has a 97 jimmy with almost no heat will flushing the heater core fix this it gets mighty cold here in wisconsin. thank you. killikat.

not real ure about the cable on the 4-wheel, but that humming noise is DEFINITLY your wheel bearing. ive replaced both of those on my 98 an they are about $160 apeice. Id worry more about that than the 4-wheel drive, because if you let the bearing go to long, it will lock the wheel up.

I am assuming it has electric 4x4 selection. A common problem on the full size pickups is the switch unit is defective in the dash. It tells the motor encoder to shift the transfer case and it sends a signal back to change the light status.

Does the 4x4 actually engage? If it does it is probably the switch or encoder on transfer case. If it does not it may be the motor or switch.

Good luck
