The end-all of chip debates, coming soon...

OK, here's what I have planned. Eillob, ModMech, I know both of you and some others will be interested in this.

I'm gonna do a heads-up dyno shootout. I called Performance Dyno near Lake Charles, LA (an hour or so from me at Ft. Polk), and here's what's happening this summer. We will test a TwEECer vs. an SCT tune on my '94 Cobra.

Plans right now are for the end of march. I should have on my car at that point:

the current setup:
9.2:1 SRP/Eagle long-rod 306
Stock intake/heads (Cobra/GT-40)
70mm TB/75mm Pro M
30 lb injectors/190 pump/AFPR.
Crane 2031 cam/stock Cobra 1.7's
Stock J4J1 cal/TwEECer installed but turned off.
Stock T-5/3.73's
-----------------------------------
What's going on very very soon:
G40X's, Gasket matched w/550 lift springs, Harland Sharp or DSS Stud Mount 1.7 RR's.
Lower intake ported to 1250
TKO500
-----------------------------------------

I plan to do a custom tune by me, one by the tuner, and do one "A9L" tune (load the fuel/timing curves from the A9L into the TwEECer), and try an SCT tune to see who wins.

My setup has currently put 247 HP on the ground on a Mustang Dyno (est. 305 HP crank by the dyno software). Also discovered later on this is with some valve float.

So with the A9L tune, I am also effectively testing vs. a PIH, sort of.

I am also gonna play with swapping in a stock MAF, 65mm TB, and back to 24 lb injectors.

I don't personally think I'm gonna see more than a 5 hp difference between any of them, probly not more than 10-15 over a stock cal. Goal is 300-320 at the wheels N/A. a 125 shot is coming later this year.

I think, honestly, I'm gonna see the best results by starting with the A9L curves, and TwEECing just a bit from there to suit my motor.

Bottom line, we're gonna see what kind of results we can get on a real-world running street car, not some anonymous "independent dyno test."

Hopefully next year I'll have the cash to further test with an AEM computer setup, reading a wideband and controlling the nitrous all in one.

It'll be nice to get some hard real-world testing in, instead of having to believe advertisements. Hell, if I listened to nothing but ads, I'd have Champion plugs in, a fram filter, and pennzoil, along with every snake oil from Prolong to Slick 50 in there...

GTStang and HiFlow-I'm gonna take lots of pics and probly do a good writeup, maybe a good tech article for ya. God knows I'm spending a pretty enough penny for this, I may as well make sure it helps save others from the process.

I think you will be shocked at the difference in driveability between the two tunes, and overall performance. The absolute power numbers will be very close, and I would not be supprised if the SCT tune is lower.

The only TWO cases where I know SCT to offer absolutely superior power numbers to all others are the 6.0L and the new GTs.

Sounds great! Let us know how everything goes and if you need a hand with anything. This should be a great article to start Bobby and my's little idea.

I for one am very much looking forward to hearing about the results of this test. I my self contancted an SCT dealer here in town and spent about 20 min talking to him on the phone.

It seems as though this chip is the hot ticket. And can be adapted to pretty much any set up you can put on your car. My concern was that I already had an A9L conversion so I wasn't sure I was going to be able to use a chip. Well according to the guy I talk to its not an issue. The total cost for the chip the dyno time and the tune would run me about $500.

The only problem I see is that they cannot guantee HP gains. Could be 15 could be more just depends. All I know is for $500 smackers I better leave with more than just 15 horses.

Anyway svtcobra306, test away you've definately got my attention.
