'96 Suburban won't start sometimes

Sometimes my '96 Suburban turns over fine, but will not start. Had it in the shop 3 times so far. Fuel pump, relay have been replaced. Runs great once it does start. Will start fine sometimes, but other times will just turn over. No noise coming from pump when it will not start. My shop is having a hard time figuring it out because every time I take it in, or have it towed in, it starts - so there is no malfunction to check.

Check the PassLock System

I have a 99 that starts sometimes and not others. I noticed the last time that it would not start that the Security light on the dash flashed. My owner's manual stated that the PassLock system will disable the fuel pump when it detects a bad key (whatever that means). I have been able to remove the key and re-insert to find the light not blinking and the truck to start. I don't know if they had this system on 96 models but I thought you might want to check. This system didn't start giving me problems until the fuel pump had to be replaced.

Good luck.

Does the check engine light come on(for the bulb test, just on for a second or so) when the fuel pump doesn't work?

Ron-I haven't noticed the check engine light when it won't work. I'll have to look next time. Thanks

Finally figured out the problem! My Suburban wouldn't start at the shop for a change, so the dealer tracked it down to a bad fuel pump. The fuel pump had been replaced about two months ago by my local shop. I took it back to them, and when they pulled the fuel pump, the square white plastic 4-prong connector that connects the pump to the sending unit had a charred pin. They replaced the sending unit, and I'm back on the road.
