One of my automatic doors is having problems closing. It gets about 95% closed and then I hear the humming noise but instead of the normal short humm it just continues for several seconds and never clicks shut. Also the LED light for the door stays on. To make the door fully shut I have to lean on the door from the outside. Nothing is obstructing the bottom track. Any ideas? thanks.

Re: 2002 Odyssey automatic door problem
Try cleaning the contacts in the door jams first. The pins get corroded and don't make contact. Us a pencil eraser and clean them and try it again.
For really bad pittting and tarnish i use a scotch bright pad. works well too. |

Thanks so much!!! Cleaning the contacts fixed the problem. I didn't think they looked that dirty but when I used the eraser it made the contacts a shiny metal finish. Honda should put this fix in the manual. |

But then people would never bring it in to get it fixed and we would be out of work.

Re: 2002 Odyssey automatic door problem
There's also a procedure to get the doors to "re-learn" their travel. It involves pulling a fuse (#13?), manually opening the door all the way, reinstalling the fuse, using the interior door buttons to close the door (I think you hold the switch down until it's 100% closed).
This is all from memory. It's been discussed on the Forums at www.odyclub.com extensively.

Re: 2002 Odyssey automatic door problem
Right but there isn't any need unless the door throws a code and stops working completely.

I have a 2000 EX. When the passenger door stopped working, I checked the fuse and contacts. Nothing seemed to work until a few weeks later when I changed the battery, the door started working again. I replaced the battery because it was five years old and the car didn't seem to start as easily as usual.

Re: 2002 Odyssey automatic door problem
been having problems with this for a long time on my 2000. Sometimes it works mostly not. Just disassembled it for the 2nd time. Opened up the cover with the plastic gear. Only had to bend one tab. Gear looked fine, no broken teeth or wear.
I put it back together placing the gear in a different position than it was. So far it works fine with repeated closing. keep my fingers crossed. |
