Drivers side floor wet

Seems to be a common issue?

I've done a search on the previous posts about this, and can't really get a definate answer or confirmation on any fixes people made.

My drivers side floor mat, and the appulstry (sp?) underneath are soaked. Granted, we are in the middle of the snowy season, but it seems like there wouldnt be as much water soaked as there is.

I've heard possibly the wiper cowl drains, which I checked, and are not blocked. I also read there could be a possible drain plug underneath the floorboard?

Any suggestions, or help on this is greatly appreciated. It's kind of musty smelling, and worse, I don't want to end up rusting out the floor.

#1 Buy a good set of rubber floor mats for the winter.

It will get soaken wet if you are not protecting the carpet from the snow.

Also, it will be rotting out your floorboards.

I'll do that, but providing it's not just from shoes, any suggestions on fixing the problem?

It won't dry out from the mats alone though. I'm sure it's not from my feet being wet. Thats why I was asking for suggestions

k, I think found the leak problem, sort of. When I removed the wiper cowl to see if the drain hole was plugged, the pen sized hole underneath the wipers appeared to be clear. BUT- when I poured a heavy ammount of water down my windshield I found that it only drains on the passenger side just behind the front passenger wheel. If you pour the water directly into the drain hole on the drivers side, the water disappears into the hole, but never drains outside the vehicle. I'm assuming that it's going into the floor on the drivers side, and this is the source of the problem. BUT how the hell do I trace this?
ps-it there any trick to removing the trim on the drivers side down my the hood latch? I can't pull the appulstry up because of it.

I posted the GM service bulletin. Sounds like your water is pooling at the HVAC damper and overflowing through the door. I'm not 100% sure, but from what I have read I think you can gain access to it by removing the right front wheel splash guard/fender. I'm planning on doing my inspection in the Spring and fabricating my "deflector" as the bulletin states. I have not experienced any leaks...yet.

ok, scratching my freakn head here.

I don't think it's this HVAC thing....could be, but doesnt seem it.

I spent ALL DAY yesterday trying to locate the source of this leak. I pulled up the mats and thoroughly dried what was a massive pool in the drivers side floor board. From there, I had massive ammounts of water poured directly windsheild, into the wiper cowls, onto the sunroof, and over the doors etc.

Not a single drip from anywhere showed inside the cab. I can't figure it out, unless it's only coming in when I'm driving. I looked underneath, and I can't really find any plug that I've heard of in other posts. Whats more, is these to short drain tubes that are located inside the drivers/passengers door hinges, never seem to drain anything. All water poured on the windshield only drains on the passenger side underneath.

Not sure WHERE the water goes that drains through the small hole on the drivers side. (ASSUME ITS COMING INTO THE CAB) although I don't see it as it drains.

As of now, I dried it out the best I could, put the floor back down, and got some heavy duty rubber mats. I'm at a loss here.

Anyone?

You watch, it is amazing how much water comes in with your boots even if you knock them off when entering the vehicle.

It have to dump my mats daily.

didn't mean to give attitude. just frustrated.
no, I said I couldnt find any leaks. it's clear, as I said in my third post, I'm sure of the fact that it's not coming from my feet.

Just keep your mind open. Mine used to get so soaked when I had stock carpet mats.

Best to pull it into a garage and dry out the carpets completely before you lay the rubber mats down. They will trap the water in the carpet.

K. I will. Just got the mats yesterday. But it won't be long before the weather gets shitty again. So we'll see if they even have time to dry out.

OK. washed my car yesterday. and this morning the drivers side is soaked again. Tell me what ya'll think of this possibility.

RE: the prior mentioned suggestions from GM:
- Water backing up at the plenum drain
Too much sealer at the plenum drain area can act as a dam, allowing water to back up in the plenum and either seep around the air box seal or around the lower right air box mounting screw. If a plenum drain has a ridge of sealer higher than 1/4 inch (6.4 mm), use a utility knife to cut the sealer down to 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) in height.

- Voids in the plenum seam sealer (WHAT IS THE PLENUM SEAM SEALER?)

- HVAC recirculation door being left open (TRIED THIS SOLUTION w/ NO DIFFERENCE)

- Door harness boot (APPEARS TO BE COMPLETELY SEALED OFF)

- Plenum/Cowl/Instrument sub panel (windshield tray)
Water may enter at the three piece Plenum/Cowl/Instrument sub panel. This area must be sealed from the inside of the vehicle; the dash assembly must be removed to gain access. This area can be sealed by spraying a clear sealer (KENT brand) in a gallon commercial sprayer, up under the Plenum/Cowl/Instrument sub panel.

I'm thinking of taking silicone, and running it the length of the windshield to attempt to seal it off on the bottom. One of my thoughts is that when I'm driving, the buildup of water thats pushed backwards from force, is seaping in between the windshield and the firewall. I refuse to take apart the dash.

The other possibility is filling the small drain hole underneath the driver's side wiper. This is the drain hole that I said water drains into, but never appears to be draining out of. Do you think this might make things worse?

opinions? running out of ideas
