2000 Isuzu Rodeo doesn't start

Troubleshooting: I had to replace the battery since it wouldn't hold a charge any longer. Once I did that, I was able drive it for 3 days before the rodeo wouldn't start. I turned on the lights, then turned over the key and the lights didn't dim (battery is fine). I didn't hear the started even attemting to engage, but did hear in the main fuse box under the hood the relays making buzzing noises. I ordered new relays...still no luck. I also had the starter test...that's fine. I traced the wiring back from the starter to the fuse box...everthing is connected and the grounds are corrosion free. When I turn over the key the dash board lights flicker frantically. I also removed the fuse from the side fuse box for the antitheft to make sure that the computer didn't think it was being stolen. I even disconnected the ecu for 24 hours so that it would reset...no luck!! Does anyone have a suggestion?

Check your battery voltage. Sounds like you truck ran fine for 3 days with the new battery. Then that is all she wrote. Why? well maybe, the alt is on the way out, and now not charging. Isuzu's don't like low voltage, yet lights will light up.

Your next step is to have your alt tested.

here is a simular post, where the guy bought a battery charger that can test both batteries and alts.

good luck!

Re: 2000 Isuzu Rodeo doesn't start

I did get the new battery tested and they said it was fine...I will have the alt tested...however, wouldn't the car at least attempt to turn over if the battery is fully charged then die once the battery is low?

Thank you for your quick response and assisting me.

also, check the ground point on the alt. You will see a wire going from the battery to the alt bracket.

Get a remote starter switch so you can manually bypass the ignition switch and see if the starter can turn over the engine provided that the battery is fully charged. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=35448
