Need help with 240 fastback

hey. im having a problem with my starter, i think. im not sure if it is. well, the problem is that everytime i disconnect the battery and reconnect it again, when i start the car i would here the starter very loudly (a loud rattling/clicking noice) and my car wont start up. i have to either bang on the starter or mess around with the battery so that my car would start up again. this is where i get confused. i dont know whether its a electrical problem that the starter has or the starter its self is broken. anyone with a guess or solution to fix this? thanks in advance for the ppl who help.

Re: Need help with 240 fastback

id replace the starter first
junkyard starters for a ka motor run like 20 bucks so it is probably the cheapest option
if it doesnt crank slowly your battery is fine
otherwise id check ignition harness or ground wires for breaks

i wouldn't replace the starter.. what it sounds like is a dying battery but if you're saying you can fool around with it and get it to start then its probably not the battery.. i'd say you're having electrical problems between the battery and the starter, which is obviously the ignition..

i had my starter go bad too. If your banging on the starter to get the car started then its the starter. THats the only way i could start my car for a week lol. I carried this metal pole around and literally beat the fuck out my starter to get my car started. Then i got a new one...starters are cheap so do that first. Ill bet its the starter.

Me and my dad bought a 89 Toyota Tercel for 50 bucks i paid 25 he paid the other 25. Man the starter would hop around like a damn Bounce Ball on two rubberbands...man that little 4-Spd was fun to drive when i was like 13-14...just fricking take it out and gun it everywhere and Feather the clutch so hard...man o man.
