My close call...

When reading through the voting thread, I saw the reward for closest call with the police. This reminded me of a story from when I first got my mustang.

I had my car for about 1 month at the time. I was heading towards my dad's house somwhere between 11:30pm and 12am. As I passed the local mall (which was closed at this time) I noticed a group of cars parked near the entrance. I looked closer and saw lots of worked up imports and a couple of Mustangs/TAs/Maros. I decided I would pull into see what was going on. By the time I got the arrow to turn, they were already leaving (all together). I figured, I got some time, let me see what they are up to (There was about 10-12 cars). Followed them around the mall, kinda keeping my distance, and noticed the street they began to turn onto had anouther 6-7 cars there, with two of them racing. Most of the other guys stayed in ther car, but about two of them got out and went to talk to the others already there.

At this point im like, hmm what a good way to break the mustang-virginism. So I kinda just lingered behind them. The two that had goten out and talked, signaled to the others to park thier cars. So they all did. Once, they cleared out, I saw two cars about to race. At this point I was still about a block behind the group of cars and racers speculating. The two that were about to race was a Trans Am WS6 and an what looked to be a lexus is300. Both cars took off, but the WS6 kinda worked over the lexus. As soon as they started to slow down, I hear it......

It was followed by red and blue lights, yep... a siren. Im like SHIT! I convinced my parents to let me get this car, now withen one month ill be ticketed for being involved with street racing (and I hadnt even done anything yet. As I saw the two cop cars approaching from behind, I turned off any light source from inside my car, and tried to creep down. The cops flew past my car and stoped my the "group." Most at this point had already begun to drive off. I figured if I laid low in my car (still about a block and a half back) I might be able to get out. One of the cop cars stayed with the parked cars that didnt flee. The other drove off after one of the runners. When I noticed that the one who stoped got out of his car to talk to the others, I decided it was my chance to get out. I went in reverse (driving lights off) until I hit the intersecting streets (no traffic around here), and began to turn off. As soon as I completed my lil reverse turn onto the street, I started to drive off.

About halfway down that block, anouther cop car (w/ sirens) pulls in however, luckily, drives past me to go towards that area. All in all it took my a long ass time to find my way back to my dad's (I dont know the area well), and I felt lucky as hell. I got back to my dad's and just crashed, because I had enough excitement for one day.

What would of been the crime? You were driving normal on the street behind the cars that raced or you were parked by the other guys?

You can still get ticketed just for watching.

Well....that sucks....My friend was ticketed for watching but when he got to court the judge said there was no crime in watching street racing. I think they changed the law since then though...I'm not sure. this other guy I know went to jail but I dont know if it was watching street racing or parking on the side of the highway or running when the cops showed up....might of been all of those combined.

Like I said, I was about a block and a half back. However, in IL you are guilt by association with any street racing. I was parked, in my car not to far away from a group of people racing. And I was in a mustang...cops love that.

With emisions it already feels pretty close to that. Alot of the exhaust systems that will really give you power are emissions illegal, just ask the long tube headers I want.... lol

muahahahaha. Fl03!da r00lz ALLL!!!!!!111!!!!

No Emissions test except when getting an off road vehicle registered as an on road vehicle. even then you just have to have a certified mechanics check out the ECU, make sure you have properly working O2 sensors and that you have a catalytic converter....
But here they treat spectators like acomlices. your friend robs a bank and you are in the get away car (driving or not unless it is by force) you get the same sentence as the robber. you are caught participating in street racing in any way the fines are the same. just no points on your license (you technically arent doing anything to warrant a moving violation).
