Exclamation Emergency Tips Needed

my brother and I are in the process right now of putting mac headers on his 98 Z28, we have the old stuff off and out of the way and we are having trouble getting the drivers side header into the engine compartment to bolt it up, can anyone tell me what i need to take of on an LS1 to get the headers in there.

also can someone tell me how to get the steering shaft off, there is only one bolt on the steering wheel side of the shaft, i cant find another bolt to let the shaft loose.

or could someone tell me where the engine mounts are, if we could take those lose we could move the engine around and fit them in there
thanks

Re: Emergency Tips Needed

There is a second bolt on your steering linkage down by the rack but it is hard to see. Try to get a look at it from under the car. And the motor mounts aretowards the center of the motor on the bottom on the driver side you may have a heat shield in the way from seeing it and on the passenger side its next to the oil level sensor. Also the driver side will go in much easier with the linkage removed. Infact I don't know how you would install the driverside with the linkage in place. Good Luck.

Re: Emergency Tips Needed

got the steering shaft out and the drivers side header in and all bolted up now, thanks formula we couldn't find the other bolt on the steering shaft, on the lt1 shaft its a one joint thing going on with both bolts right there but in the ls1 there is two joints in the shaft and the other bolt is kinda hidden. were fixing to start putting the pass side on, and by the way both valve covers half to come off

NP LT1 and I assumed you had the Valvecover off already if you were on the install but I would have added that if I had known.

After the first startup, let it run for a few minutes, then shut the car off and re-tighten the bolts. You may have to do this several times. You can't get the bolts completely tight while cold, and it is inevitable that you will have leaks otherwise. This mistake is made often, which explains why nearly every car with exhaust modifications have leaks. They just forget the simple steps!
