white bulbs for clear corners
I have super white headlights on my teg but the bulbs in the clear corners are amber. I know you have to have amber for it to be legal but i want my clear corner bulbs to be super white like my headlights. I tried sylvania silverstar 1157 but those are amber. The bulb outside looks blue but lights up amber. Anyone know any kind of 1157 bulbs that light up super white like the white headlights. I know i will probably have to also replace the (H3?), bulb also, what is a good (H3?) bulb thats also white.

it doesnt have to be EXACT. I just want both white. Right now i have the white headlights and the yellowish white corners, doesnt match. I looked around on ebay and i found some bulbs that are suppose to be white. The glass part of the bulb looked smaller tho. Anyone have experience with ebay 1157 bulbs?

PIAA makes 1157 Extreme White bulbs that are pretty white. B1 Hybrid also makes some pretty white "extreme white 1157's." The PIAA's have a more stock wattage of 27/8, where-as the B1 Hybrids have 21/5, more commen amoung white bulbs. I find the PIAA's a little brighter, the B1's a little bluer. The PIAA's lasted longest I think. I hope some of this helps.

They cost like $10 a piece, but on autolumination.com, they sell LED fixtures for all bulb sizes. I used the 1157 "hyper white" LED's for my clear corners and they match my Silverstar headlights well. They also have the 194 (fits the 168 spot) for the sides of the corners.

I've never cared for LED's. They pull such low current, the car reads the bulb as being burnt out and they blink extremely fast. I find that very annoying. There is a product out there I've seen before that car help with this, but I'd have to do research again to find it and what it's called.

They are called load resistors. Unfortunatley you need one for every bulb. There is a store on Ebay that sells them cheap http://stores.ebay.com/Velocity-leds Hopefully that helps if you considered using LEDs.

one more question, i try replacing my gauge cluster light with LED (194/168) blub but it doesnt light up properly. i think i got the wrong kind of LED, the one i got had 6 LED in it. Is it suppose to be only one LED? cuzz i thought the more the LED, the brighter it is. it is, but in the gauge cluster when it light up, some part are brighter then the other. i think the light doesnt diffuse equally. if any one wat im talking about, plz help. thanks in advance. |

I'm not really sure what the difference is, I think the 194 bulb is slightly larger. Either way, they both fit. As far as the gauge LED's, I ordered some blue ones last week that were the one LED wide angle lens variety. They should come in tomorrow so I'll let you know if those work. I would think that the 6 LED (matrix style) would work better though.

eh so that means i would have to get 2 different bulbs for one clear corner, so thats 4 bulbs total plus 4 load resistors. Sounds like the price would add up and end up being $25+. It doesnt really bother me that much right now, im trying to save all i can, getting coilovers in a couple of weeks

My LEDs still haven't come yet so I'm not sure if they'll work. I think there was a shipping problem. Anyways, I have seen sites advertise those inverted LEDs for use in gauges, so those might work. As far as the load resistors, I think you only need 2 for the 1157 bulbs. I had amber incandecent bulbs for those and amber LEDs for the 194 and the turn signal functioned normally then.

is it even necessary to get load resistors. Also when u put LEDs in your clear corners, are they really bright? Are they brighter then the highlights and does it look weird compared to the headlights brightness?

No, you don't actually need the load resistors (I don't use them), some people just have a problem with the fact that the car thinks that the bulb is out which causes the fast blinking. The LEDs are bright, but they don't make a huge difference. The Hyper white LEDs I ordered actually have a slight purple tint to them, but they still look good. I also just got my gauge lights today so I will post pictures of that and the corners later on when it gets dark.
