intermittent 2.8 mpfi problem "reply"

Thanks for all your inputs to my problem.
I thought I have checked for vacuum leaks and maf sensor problems but I will double check. If it was the maf sens. should I not get a code? Also, I don't have a code scanner and I'm using the a.l.d.l. and counting the flashes of the check engine light. Is this not reliable?
