Question 99 Grand Cherokee Tranny Help....

I know this might be repeated but instead of surfing through 68 pages of Help I thought someone might know which page or give some assistance....My wifes Jeep had a hard shift then the Check engine light came on so of course it went into Limp mode and lost power at take off...We took it to the dealer and they ran the codes but couldn't give us an answer just saying it had to go to there tranny shop for further trouble shooting.....They are trying to say they need to remove the Tranny and break it down to find the problem is this a common thing through a dealer because the price there quoting just to remove and re-install is outragious....I was wondering if it ends up to be sensors are they located inside the Tranny or bolted outside the Tranny???? If some one cold help please let me know....Don't want to get taken from a Crazy Dealer.....

If the check engine light is on or if it comes on you can take it to Auto Zone if you dont have a Scan Tool. They can give you the code # and the Tranny reference code. There are sensors and solenoids inside the Trans you would need a manual at least if you do the Fix. Dealers are very High in price you could find a tranny shop cheaper or buy a rebuilt and do it your self if thats what it needs. Find the Codes and Post back

on the wj you can pull the codes without a scan tool. just turn the ignition on and off thrre times, leaving it on the last tim. The codes will flash in your odometer

Re: 99 Grand Cherokee Tranny Help....

If you do the job yourself , be aware that the $300.00 parts ..gov solinoid, transducers , inside the pan area , have to be installed with a NON metallic retainer , otherwise they just ground out and ruin them , it cost me $700.00 ,at a out of state dealer ,to learn that the independent shop rebuild was worthless
