Alternator removal-93 3.3 Can't get it out

I'm trying to remove the old alternator from the engine compartment. It won't come out from the top because of the mounting bracket, and cannot exit from the below. It won't fit through the opening behind the engine....My trusty Haines manual has failed me...so far. It says to remove from below, but it won't go. 93 Dodge Caravan 3.3.

Did you make sure to remove the plastic splash guard from the right wheel well? That makes it a lot easier.

Well........no I didn't. But I did finally get it out from the top (just prior to your reply). I had to free the power steering fluid container and undo some mounts for the AC lines to move them. Just barely got it out.
I think I'll check out your idea when I go to put in the new one.
Problem solved!
Thanks so much!
