Exclamation Idle bounces around, can't hold straight idle

I was at a red light today running only at idle and I could feel the car reving a little then letting off. My guess is that it was bouncing around between 500-1000 RPMs and my idle is set at about 800 RPMs and since my RPM gauge doesn't work I really can't say how much play was going on. The CEL didn't trip, the car never stalled at least from this problem, and the problem didn't effect the way the car performed. I checked to see if the intake was loose but no luck there cause I do know that if that's loose then this will happen but will most likely make it stall in a matter of minutes if not seconds. I even made sure that snow hadn't got stuck in the intake vent in the stock body kit/body shape. I don't know what else to check or what else to do.

That would be called Idle surge. Alot of 1gs get it. It can be anything from a vacuum leak to the o-ring on the biss screw crapped out. Check your vacuum lines and if the vacuum lines are fine, i would then check your biss scew. You can check on VFAQ, it should have info needed for the rest.

Re: Idle bounces around, can't hold straight idle

This is a common problem among all 1g's. There is so much information on this issue around this board and the web. Infact so much information from so many different sources that it is a waste of time discusing this issue. Research the problem, and if there is something allong the line that you are having trouble understading, then ask the forum.

Actually I did research this problem and had no luck so by posting this question I was looking for help because I already couldn't find any. So do us all a favor and not post things like this cause it gives no advice or help in any way. Thanks and if anybody actually has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Idle bounces around, can't hold straight idle

http://www.crebotech.com/

There is a ton of info on this site. There is a troubleshoting link at the bottom. Some others too, including a link to the vfaqs.

Its not that macder was not tyring to be helpful, its just this question has been popular for the last 10 years. That means two things are probably true. 1, there is a ton of info already out there. 2, poeple with the answer are tired of handing it out to people that don't search. Good luck with it.
