Need Some Help

Alright guys, going on what I said abuot me having to design and build a go-kart, I need soem help.
First of all, I'm getting a year start on the actual assignment because I have never built anything before or designed something of this magnitude.
Second, is anyone out there familiar with the Autodesk Inventor program as this is what I'm going to be using for design.
Third, what are some suggestions on go-kart design, parts, featuers etc I should use....Let's try and make it like an AF go kart.
Fourth, would this be athe right place to be posting updates and all?

Any help and comments (relating tot his topic) are welcome.

Re: Need Some Help

I've used Inventor, it's pretty easy to learn, took me about a week to teach myself how to use it effectively for design.

Re: Need Some Help

Decide on a motor then start building around it.

I already mastered Inventor, worked on it last semester.

Anyways what I really want is a roug estimate of how much I have to save over the year and get some ideas from everyone on making this thing happen.
If you guys can just give me an answer to these question I might think of something

1.what kind of engine? (price would be nice)
2.what type of body?
3.2 seater or solo?
4.safety features?
5.should I just go for a one seater car?
6

Thanks guys

Re: Need Some Help

a briggs and strat 10hp can be modified pretty good for a go kart purpose. Open wheel body style. Make it a one seater, with a second seat the extra weight will make a large difference. Plus it's that much bigger that you have to make it. You should deffinetaly (I can't spell today) have a 5 point harness.
A guy I used to work for has 2 sons that race and build go karts. They are like 30 and have been doing it since they were kids so they know what they are doing. I will see what they might recommend for some references.

Re: Need Some Help

K20A + Supercharger. If Ariel can do it, then so can you.

so what if it's expensive, rob a god damn bank

More seriously, I think any highly strung Jap bike engine would suit the project fine, all depending on how competitive you want it to be.

Re: Need Some Help

Eh, no car engines will be going into this. Unless AF decides to pay for all of it. Motor bikes can be found almost anywhere and are much cheaper.
And this isn;t some competition at school, it's an assignment. Hopefully if it is built good enough, I can sell it back to someone and make some profit
