Seatbelt sensor light goes off randomly...

Well, yet another problem... I have a 2002 Malibu LS and the seatbelt light (on the dash) goes off randomly. No, it's not that I am not wearing my seatbelt... I personally feel everyone should wear a "death-trap" of some sort. I have tried jiggling the seatbelt clasp while it is connected to the seatbelt and it doesn't seem to make any difference. A month ago, I posted a problem about the HVAC Blower relay and I believe this problem with the seatbelt sensor (or whatever is causing the light to come on) had worsened around that time. Normally, I wouldn’t bitch so much about something as irrelevant as a seatbelt light, but lately, since the seatbelt light is located so close to the signal light, every time it goes off I think I still have my signal light on so I then turn it off which is actually turning my signal light on… So YES!!! It was me that drove nearly four miles with a signal light on!!! I have become the thing I hate so much! This light is driving me crazy. I would appreciate any advice or tips anyone can give. I feel that you guys and gals have more expertise with my car than the experts themselves...

Re: Seatbelt sensor light goes off randomly...

Have you looked at the wire lead under the drivers seat?
It may have been caught in the seat track and been damaged and causes it to go open when you shift in the seat and sets the light off.
You also can unplug it under the seat and jump the wires together and drive it awhile, if the light stays out then you will know it is in the seat switch/harness.
I think I have one of these in my pile of parts for malibu's in a gray cloth seat if you need one.
