cavalier performance mod

hello, i was just wondeirng if anyone knew about these "performance mods" they sell on ebay for like 2 bucks, its just a resistor you put in your iat sensor hookup, it makes your engine think its geting colder air, so it gives it more gas, hence more power. is it a good investment, or is it total bullshit

i was just looking over my post here and decided to reword it, i bought one of those mods on ebay, i put it in, it DOES work, there IS a noticable difference in power, i guess i meant to ask if it will screw the engine or anything up, or if itll just suck a little more gas

Re: cavalier performance mod

Mostly just suck more gas and your car will run richer than usual but i dont think any problems will come from it,

Re: cavalier performance mod

they are definately a waste of moneythey cost like maybe a half a cent each. they make the engine think its running cold or something and gives it more gas, which yes does give more horse power, but not in the best of ways. They say it gives you like 20 horses, they're full of it.

you said not in the best of ways, is it bad for the engine??? will it do any long OR short term damage, and you are right, they are about a half cent each, and there is no way in hell it gives it 20 more horsepower, its enough to notice, but i know its not 20

it ewont do any damage as it would just be like running it in cold weather. However. You are using more fuel then usual and the problem this causes is that not all if will get burnt in the combustion chamber. This will leave a nice layer of carbon inside yuor motor on you vlaves etc and you will in the end lose power as you valves will no longer seat properly meaning that you will have lowered compression as it chamber isn't sealed and less air/fuel mix will be able to flow into the chamber. In addition to this the platinum and rhodium that are sprayed on the internals of your cat will erode as gas does this and in the end it will serve no purpose at all so your cat will be dead before it ahould be. The tell tale sign of this is the smell of sulfur (smells like rotten eggs). So ultimately it's not worth using short if not running any intake or filter and just having an air feed direct into the TB (this isn't good for road cars).

Personally I'd say remove it. For the extra Gas your wasting you may as well just run it on Premium instead and you will get the power increase and you should return better mileage and it will keep you motor clean!

Re: cavalier performance mod

im not sure if this is true, but ive also heard that it can do something called washing the cylinder walls. This is where if its running extremly rich, which i might do, the extra gasonline that isnt burned off will actually wash the oil off the walls of the cylinder, less oil=more friction, more friction=dead engine sooner.

you mention a nice layer of carbon in the motor and the valves not seating properly or something.... is that anything that a bottle of "fuel system cleaner" from any auto parts store would take care of

Yes as the PCM will still think the air is colder. Fuel line/injector cleaner can clear it but wont work on heavy carbon deposits. To be honest it really isn't worth keeping the thing on your car!!!

Re: cavalier performance mod

cant you just get hoter plugs and wires and stuff to burn the extra fuel in the chamber and have the extra power increase not including what youll get with the wires and whatever else you deside to add to it

Without the proper air/fuel mix it still wont work. Would probably run bad too.
