2001 Jetta Blinker problem

This one is strange to me.

This is the problem.

When we try to use the left turn signal it blinks rapidly and the orange light in the front assembly does not blink at all. All other light functions work properly. The orange light works when the lights are on so I am not sure why it does not light up when we use the left turn signal. I checked all of the light realated fuses and the only turn signal fuse there is and they all look fine to me. What can be the problem?

I am going nuts trying to figure this out.

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the turn signal bulbs in front and back? Have you checked the sockets? The front sockets tend to melt when the bulb burns out so you have 2 replace the socket. If both of those are ok then i would say the 4-way flasher switch in the center console is bad. They always go bad over time and the ACTUALLY control power to the turn signal bulbs. Press the 4-way switch or turn signal and if it clicks then stops or clicks really loud and hard then the switch is bad. i believe VW is coming out w/ a recall on these in early febuary?

I believe the back lights are working and I just replaced 2 bulbs yesterday. I will check them again. I have not checked the front sockets but I have never had a bulb go out in the front.

The Turn signal clicks really fast.

Re: 2001 Jetta Blinker problem

After some more testing of the lights this is what I have found out. When I press the Hazard button the only light that will not blink on and off is the driver side front orange light. Also when I use the left turn signal the same light will not turn on. What is causing this?

The bulb has two filaments, one is T/S the other is park lights. The T/S part has burned out.
