Wheel bearing problem ???

Can anyone describe the symptoms they had with a bad front wheel bearing?

Reason I ask is because I just had an alignment and front brakes done a few weeks back. So I know that isnt the problem.

Basically my front end feels like I have a warped wheel or something. The steering wheel is bouncing back and forth and I can feel something not smooth while the tire is spinning. Theres no noise associated , but it feels like a bearing is missing in the hub. Best way to explain it is like a playing card in the spokes of a bike. Without the noise.

My TC light went on a while back because of the wheel sensor so Iam assuming the bearing must be mechanically shot as well. I have always had to change the Auroras wheel bearings becuase of the sensor so I never had one go bad mechanically.

Does this sound like a symptom to anyone who has expierience with a bad bearing ?

Thanks in advance fellas.

P.S. You can feel the " playing card effect" more so with the wheel turned then with it straight.

Re: Wheel bearing problem ???

Maybe the CV joint instead of wheel bearing? Does it make more noise when turning sharp, like parking? Could be the wheel bearing, but usualy you can hear them "howling" before they get that bad.
Give the brakes a visual inspection to make sure something has not come apart in there.
Check to make sure your wheel has not come lose. I got new tires on my Cherokee a couple of weeks ago, and the next day heard a noise could not figure out. The left rear tire was lose.

Re: Wheel bearing problem ???

Doesnt seem like a CV joint. I checked my tires for loosness too. Theres no sound either. Just a vibrating back and forth. Best way to explain is like I have a warped wheel. But I have not done anything to cause that.

Ill get it checked out soon and report what it is incase anyone has a similar problem.

Re: Wheel bearing problem ???

Check the tires for tread seperation. With the tire off the ground, rotate it and watch for the tread to deviate from a straight line. The place where the tread deviates will be trying the "steer" the car in a different direction and feel like a warped wheel or warped disc when braking. I've experianced this and it was most noticable when coming to a stop. It was on a drum brake car so I knew it wasn't a wrapped disc.

Re: Wheel bearing problem ???

They were Michelin MXV 4 's.

They were good tires. Had them for over 3 years with zero problems until now. Only think I didnt like about them though were that they were noticably harder than Goodyears .
