a free iPod?

This is not spam, trying to get you to sign up, its just my story.

Nothing in life is free. It takes hard work and money to get valuable things.

When I first saw the freeipods.com scam pop up, I shrugged it off. I've been seeing those stupid 'claim your FREE prize now!' ads on the internet as long as I remember.

About a month later a friend of mine was doing it and he was trying to get some referals. This was a good friend, and I decided to sign up and complete an offer for him, help him out. After going through the process, I was a bit intrigued. It didn't really seem like one of those other scams, something about this was different.

I hit up google, trying to search for information pertaining to the authenticity of the freeipods claim. I found a few websites, but one site stuck out. It offered videos and testimonials from numerous people, the site was well done, and was getting a fair bit of traffic. I checked out the forum and found a very nice community, with even some users claiming they had received their free ipod.

Well, the process to getting it is simple. Sign up for an offer, then have 5 friends, or referrals, sign up under you and they'll ship you an iPod. There was no risk, seeing as how the offer you complete is easily cancelled before the trial ends. I figured why the hell not, I already completed an offer, might as well try and find 5 more people.

About a month later, I finally completed all my referrals. It took the website another 2 weeks to approve my sign up and authenticity of the referrals. Finally my status was changed from 'Approving' to 'Processing'. Things were looking up.

I checked the status for 3 weeks after, about 10 times a day, waiting for it to change to 'Shipped'. I lost sleep, just staring at my turned off computer, thinking about what was happening on the freeipods website.

After the 3 weeks, I just stopped checking that often. I was disappointed, apparently it really was a scam.

Well, 3 weeks and 2 days from the time I first was being 'Processed', I got a package in the mail. At first I thought it was my parents, but when I checked the name it was clearly 'Mark Villaloboz'. The return address? Gratis (the company that runs freeipods.com).

This was my initial reaction.

WHAAATTTTT?!?

Could it be??

Wait, no.

YES!

IT IS!

I give you my word, as an AF regular, this was my free iPod I received from freeipods.com

So, nothing in life is free. It just takes a little work and some waiting to get something for free

And my status still hasn't changed to 'Shipped'. Oh well, doesn't matter what the website says

That's pretty cool, looks like you lucked out. But how much junkmail are gonna receive now? j/p I'm still not into taking a chance on those things. But i guess you're proof that sometimes things are for real.

As far as junk email, I signed up with a junk mail account so I don't even use it. They can send as much spam as they want to it.

And as for my home mailbox, I'm not too worried about junkmail, my parents get the mail anyways

Re: a free iPod?

i looked into doing something like that, but it was different. You had to sign up for all these plans on different pages. The first couple of pages were easy enough. Just sign up for a trial run or get a trial something or another shipped to you, but the last page you had to sign up for a satelite dish or sign up for some credit or by something somewhat expensive so I quit right there on doing it.

Re: a free iPod?

publicenemy - please don't hijack my thread into getting you an ipod for yourself. I promised no spam or begging in this thread, and I want to keep it that way. Can you please take your links out of here?

I was expecting to see yet another spam thread. I'll sign up when they make freeipods.ca

Enjoy your iPod.

Speaking of junkmail. I previously reported my dealings with a "free iPod " site in another thread on this forum. I used my Yahoo account because I figured all of the junkmail I would get from this. Well I was right. Before I went on that site and started signing up for their offers, I would get maybe 1 or 2 junk emails a day. I stopped emptying my junk mail folder on Yahoo on 1/1/05, and today the folder broke 600 junk email messages. That's just over 21 spam emails a day. I'm waiting to see how high the number goes before Yahoo says something about it. LOL
