94 Grand Am Tranny shot?

Always been a great car untill the last snow storm. While backing out of a snow covered driveway uphill the transmission just decided it wasnt going any further. Once it got to about 2000 rpm it as if it was put into neutral with a jerk. There was a small trail of fluid left behind as I took it back down the drive and parked it. The fluid level looks good but the fluid condition is brown and smells burnt. A few days later I thought I would investigate a little futher started up and engaged fine, but after it warmed up same problem occured as before. Any ideas?
Thanks

It sounds like you cooked the tranny, most likely going to need a rebuild. A buddy of mine thought he burnt his tranny, his fluid was brown and smelled burnt and the car would hardly move. We changed the fluid and filter and wouldn't you know it the car ran fine. this may or may not help in your case but if it might be enough to get you to a tranny shop. My buddy's case may have been unusual, you might change the fluid and get nothing or it may work for a while and then act up. Can you take a chance and have it quit when your driving down the road? I would make sure to get it looked at by a pro.

Re: 94 Grand Am Tranny shot?

Back again with update on grand am,
Decided to replace fluid and filter so I
backed the car up pulled into the garage and the transmission worked fine. I started to jack the front end up and noticed fluid dumping out from the passenger side of car. Lets take a closer look?
The ( I presume tail shaft by the drive shaft?) transmission was physically broken completely around! About 2" separation. So the car is soon to be history. If anyone needs parts let me know,
1994 Pontiac Grand Am 3.1L Runs great! Body is Fair Dk green,

Ah, man, that sucksk!!!!!!!!! Yeah, either replace the trans, about $1,800 for new tranny and all the labor involved, or part the car. Sorry to hear it not a reasonable fix,
