Re: 98 accord 5 speed

OK, so we need more info...
Say you are in first gear, and you floor it, you accelerate, and then you hit 5k...what exactly happens? Does it just stick at 5k? Does the car stop accelerating or keep going faster? What is the speedo needle doing during all of this? Can you hear your car over-reving? (if so, stop)

Also refresh my memory, what is the redline on your car?

Lastly, how many miles do you have on your car...what major repairs have you done? What have you done to it recently? The more info the better.

Are you getting any Check Engine Lights or any other lights flashing on your dash?

Re: 98 accord 5 speed

How long is it stuck at 5k before it goes into neutral? And do you have a manual or automatic?

Re: 98 accord 5 speed

under your profile it says that your car is a 1996. Which is it? 96 or 98? I saw something like this in one of the integra forums. Some kind of safe mode on the ECU or something caused the fuel to cutoff.

Re: 98 accord 5 speed

So it goes back into neutral...but it doesn't stall?

Fuel cut is one thing, but I've never heard of a car, self-engaging the clutch, and self-shifting into neutral, as a safety precaution.

Re: 98 accord 5 speed

Good grief, if it dropped into neutral at 5,000 rpm, the revs would instantly go WAY up - there'd be no safety angle in that!

I have a 6th generation Accord manual also (2000 EX) There may be a problem with your VTEC selenoid. Although VTEC doesn't have a set engagement for the F23 engines, it normally activates as early as 4900RPM's and as late as 5300RPM's. If there's a problem with the VTEC system, that problem may occur. Also, make sure your oil level is correct. If you're low on oil, VTEC will not engage.

Good Luck
