Question Clutch

I own a Jeep - my husband owns a Ford Aspire. Anyway, about two months ago the Aspire just quit on him on the highway - we took it to HIS local mechanic and he said we needed a new clutch - that it had burnt out. So, we replaced the clutch - this mechanic is reasonable in pricing.

HOWEVER, that was two months ago - my husband took his Aspire back to the same mechanic yesterday, and the clutch is burned out again. HIS mechanic said the clutch was still under warranty, but he would have to charge for the labor.

Well, my question is - assuming my husband can drive a standard pretty well, what happened here? Is it possible to put a clutch on wrong? (I'm no mechanic, so please excuse my ignorance on the subject.)

Also, I use the words "HIS mechanic" - because I have my own - and neither of us will go to the other's mechanic - just married a few months ago and thick-headed!

This site (you guys) has helped me tremendously with Jeep problems I've had - so please help me now!!!

Re: Clutch

clutch pedal height and freeplay are adjustable; they should be checked

Clutch

Thank you - I'll mention that. He did get it fixed again - but now it keeps "missing" - I don't know what is wrong with this car - every other week it's something different!
