engine bay space
does anyone know how much space a 95-98 US 240sx has in its engine compartment?

Enough to fit an engine as wide as the VG30DETT (w/some modifications) and as big as a small block V8 (which btw is not as wide as the Z32 engine).

Lots!
It should have plenty to move around in. I no the RB26DETT will fit, but needs custom front engine mounts and the fan on the radiator needs to move to the front and become a push style fan.
