digital dash and pulsating
hello...i hope someone can help...my 1990 cutlass supreme quad 4 2.3L...has a problem...My dash does not read the speed, and the odometer does not work. but they all come on,and stay on, and then set to zero, but the gas gage works and is acurate. while i am driving my car will start to pulsate...(keeps jerking) and my speedometer will start flashing numbers...not acurate...but sometime it will flash the correct speed. then after a while of dealing with it, it will straighten up and the speedometer will set back to zero, and the car will run perfectly...could this be the computer? the computer in the car has a sticker that says "remanufactured from General Motors Corp." could it have gone bad again...i have tried to get the codes from the service engine light but it doesnt seem to work right...oh and when the car starts to pulsate and the dash "works" sometimes the low coolant light and the service engine light will flash at the same time..but i have checked the coolant and it is not low...thanks for any help...

here is aweb site that goes step by step on how to fix the gauges
http://www.geocities.com/southbeach/...nt_cluster.htm this web site helped me fix my gauges I just resoldered the IC and it worked I tried to relpace the caps but in order to do so you have to desolder a seperate curcuit board which is difficult to do I ended up getting a guy i work with who's in his 4 th year of electrical circuitry to do so. the only problem was that from heating up the points take the 2nd curcuit board out replace the capacitors (that didn't need to be replaced)the joints that hold the pins in boke and I had to end up disassembling the second board again and resoldering the 6 or 7 pins because the gauges didn't woork before I re diasassembled it but did work when I just resoldered the IC. My gauges work perfectly fine now they never flicker not even a bit the only thing wrong still is that the oddometer only works in miles not km/h but the speedo does and the trip works fine in km/h and mph. P.S. If you do need to relpace leaky caps the only cost me $1.20 CAN for four but you only need 3. |
