New Starter Question

I put in a new starter in my 89 3.3 Century last week. Everytime I start it, it makes a short high pitch squeching noise. Someone told me that it will disapear after a while but I want to know if that means I need to use more shims. I didn't remove any when I took out the old starter, but my new starter came with 3 shims and a rod. Will using shims make the nosie disapear?

Try the shims one at a time.Loosen the longer bolt enough to put the shim in.Unbolt the shorter completely.
