cold on idel , really not around 2300 rpm??

Hi
I just bought an acura integra LS 1996. I live in Quebec Canada where it's really cold in the winter. Now I noticed when I stop on a red light, the air coming from the heater fan inside the car gets kind of cold ( ..Not cold really … not hot is a better term), but right after I press the gas and rpm hits around 2300, now it get really hot, almost to the point that if I put my fingers right over the hot air, I feel like that kind of heat could eventually melt the plastic on the car....
The heat gauge is normal and stable and the engine temperature is constant.
It doesn’t look like I get more volume of air when the rpm is higher, so I tent to believe it’s a temperature issue, not an air volume issue..
Is this normal on 1996 integra? Or what can I do to make the car worm up when it's on idle?
TIA
Herb

J'habite au quebec (montréal) aussi. J'avais la même problème avec mon toyota qui avait 200000kms. J'ai changé le radiateur et thermostat en même temps et ca reglé le probleme.

I had the same problem with my toyota, i changed the thermostat and radiator at the same time and it solved the problem, however my car was also slightly overheating.

salut voisin. je vais continuer dans la langue de Shakespeare bien que je suis moi-meme de moliere...

As I stated my car is not overheating. The car radiator seems to be working fine but I will definitively change the thermostat and see what it does.
somethig else I forgot to add. in the summer, the AC has the same problem. warm on Idle and cold on more rpm?? Coincidence or not?
Anyone can explain how my car heater works? I believe it has its own radiator. Could it be that this radiator is plugged? My knowledge of heater functionality is pretty poor....
TIA
Herb.

think of it like this. the water pump only pumps the water in your engine as fast as the engine is spinning. you are actually getting the cooler side of the antifreeze. now when you are driving it is moving the antifreze faster so you get a constant hot.you can try changing your thermostat to a hotter running thermostat since you primarily live in cold weather. i live in florida so i want a colder running thermostat.
and as far as the a/c, it might need a recharge. one thing most people don't know is that you freon has seal conditioners in it. when you don't use the a/c for a bit the seals are not getting the lube they should. it is best to run the a/c for a min or two a week just to keep them conditioned. that can help save the life of the seals. and prevent leaks.

Hi integralover
Thanks for your help.
What I would like to know if the exact path (step by step please) the water takes to finally bring warmness into the car? And is there a hose connected to the engine radiator or is it connected directly (and independently from the engine radiator) into the engine. I guess if it’s independent I need a hot engine thermometer, and if it’s interlocked with the engine radiator, I need a colder thermometer? Do I make any sense to you or am I in the potato field?

Also can someone tell me where to look for the radiator and fan, the one for heating up inside, not the engine one…

herb.

the top hose on your radiator is thflow from the engine to your radiator and the large hose on the bottom is from the radiator to you thermostat and to the heating element inside the car. so the cooled down antifreeze is what travels into the car. and the heating element and blower for your car is under the dash right above where the front passenger would put their feet. and yes i would put a warmer thermostat in your car since your up in the cold reaches of canada
