stock smic

Alright, I'm currently piecing together a turbo kit for my 2000 eclipse gt (I know you guys hate 3G's but whatever, I'm just looking for some help). Anyway I was looking to use a smic from a 2G turbo but I dont know how much HP they are capable of flowing so I thought I'd ask you guys. I'm looking to be putting down around 350 to the wheels and I'd like to use this intercooler cause I can get one for cheap, but if it's too small I guess I'll have to go with a smic from a supra TT if I can find one.

Thanks a lot,
Matt

Re: stock smic

The stock 2g (or even the 1g for that matter) is WAY too small. I think the surpa smic will be too small as well, for a 350 hp goal. A good intercooler is key to a well-setup turbo system. I'd recommend shelling out for a nice Spearco front-mount.

Re: stock smic

I don't wanna go for a fmic. I think the piping is way too long and I dont really like the look of one on a 3G anyway. I may try to get a side mount that was included in the AAI turbo kit that was advertised at between 320-350 whp.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Re: stock smic

start with the Supra side-mount,for the price, but if you got some money to play with dejon tool makes their own SMIC ..http://www.dejontool.com/DSM-2g%20SIC.htm
scroll down alittle and you will see it...

Re: stock smic

That's a little pricey. But hell, everything in a turbo project is expensive so that's to be expected. I still have other parts to buy for my kit so my intercooler decision can wait for a while until I find the right one for my application. Thanks for your help.

Re: stock smic

if you duct enough air to a supra or dejon sidemount it should be able to handle 350 hp. you are definately going to need to make some ducts to flow air to the smic

Re: stock smic

Plenty of poeple are doing 350 whp on 2G sidemounts. I saw a 1g run a high 11 at the 2002 or 2003 shootout on a stock 1g SMIC. I was over 300 on mine, not quite 350 though. I saw veyr small gains going to a supra SMIC. Much bigger IC, same shitty location

Thats not to say that I recomend it. A FMIC would be ideal, and is somewhat of a safety feature.

Re: stock smic

I have plans for one of the 12x24x3 ebay cores, which have been selling recently for $200-220 shipped. Piping and couplers shouldn't be more than about another $50 or so, and that intercooler setup should support the EvoIII 16g quite well.
