'95 JGC 4.0L engine dies and won't restart for 20 min.
Hopefully you guys can help....
My jeep starts and runs fine for about 15-20 mins. then without warning dies and will not restart until completely cooled off. I replaced the fuel pump last weekend for a different problem, and it seems to be working ok. I figure it has to be some relay, but which one? Any help you guys can provide will be appreciated. Thanks, HS |

Re: '95 JGC 4.0L engine dies and won't restart for 20 min.
Could be the ASD (Auto Shutdown Relay).
Or the Ignition Coil, when the Ignition coil gets hott (when it goes bad) it will shut down and not work until it cools down - just like a bad Fuel Pump. Check for spark when the jeep shutsdown nexttime. and check to c if the Fuel Pump is kicking ON. If fuel is coming on and NO Spark the Ignition Coil would be the best bet. If no spark and no Fuel - then ASD. |

The pump is kicking on, and during my last problem I replaced my ASD relay, so I guess I'll check my coil tomorrow.
Thanks |

Check the Cam position sensor inside the Dist. It will act like a bad coil when it gets hot and restart when it cools off.

Is it the "cam" shaft position sensor, or the "crank" shaft position sensor? I'm bumming rides to NAPA, so I was get the coil and sensor figuring if I don't need it, I will eventually.

The cam position sensor is in the distributor and the crank positionsensor is at the back of the engine above the flywheel.

Socket and extensions - if possible

For those following along...
I replaced my Crankshaft Position Sensor, and it seems to have fixed my problem. For those about to attempt the same repair... A 1/4" Drive Flexhead Wrench with a 7/16" socket is a must!!!! I finally got to it from underneath, while reaching around the bellhousing. Also, the great guys at Jeep zip-tied the wireloom on top of the transmission. So I cut one end off of the old sensor to remove it, and routed the new one differently. Hope this helps, and thanks for all the help. HS |

Sorry, HammerStricker. I guess I gave you some unusable info. I was thinking you had a 5,2L/5,2L V8.
I was not thinking of it to be a 5.0L for some reason. |
