Speedo dont work

Well its a 92 Plymouth Grand Voyager 3.3. When i bought it the speedo/odo didnt work. Iv reset codes drove it and came up with 15 looked it up and said Vehicle/Distance Sensor Circuit so i just figured that had to be the speedo sensor. Bought a new one and reset the codes again with the neg cable and still no speedo and still get code 15. What else could it be and what is 15 if it isnt the speed sensor?

There are two scenarios with this one:
1. The speed sensor you replaced is defective; happens all the time.
2. There is another sensor, the output speed sensor mounted on the front of the transmission by the LF tire. If your tranmission is in "limp mode" or it won't shift past 2nd gear, then more than likely it's that output speed sensor. But if just the speedometer is not working, you probably have a defective speed sensor.

speed and odometer dont work. I saw a couple sensors on the tranny that all looked pretty much similar i replaced the plastic one because the new one was plastic and the other was metal. So your saying there is more than 1 sensor that has to do with speed? If so hows come the auto store didnt ask this ? to me which one i needed? And the one i did not replace is the easy to get to one at bottom of tranny.

test your speed sensor by jacking up the front and if you have access to a voltmeter, get two paper clips and put those paper clips inside the rubber boot of the electrical connector. Get your two leads of the voltmeter and spin the tires, with the key on, of course. Have the meter set to AC voltage. If you don't see a fluctuating voltage, your vehicle speed sensor is bad. The vehicle speed sensor controls the speedometer and odometer. The output speed sensor does the same thing, just over-redundancy on the part of Chrysler; it pretty much tells the TCM what gear the transmission is in by measuring the speed the input speed sensor, towards the front of the tranny by the bellhousing. Enough about transmission controls 101, test your vehicle speed sensor first before moving on to the other sensor(s). Chances are you have a bad (new) speed sensor.

Well took the new sensor back and had the old sensor tested and it tested good so now im going to go check the cable. If anyone else has any input for me to try if the cable test good reply.

well hunting high and low i could not find a speedo cable but where the 2 drive shafts meed there was a sensor that i pulled and it had a gear on bottom. So i tested it with a ohm tester and nothing it was dead. So Im gonna replace that in morning when auto store opens. Il update later
