new guy with transmission problem

Was up guys. Yeah im new here and this is my first post so bare with me and ill try to get it right, lol. I recently bought a 95 eclipse gsx and at first everything was great, no problems, no worries, no nothing. The car has 80,0000 miles on it which may have something to do with it. Anyway i decided to start upgrading the shifter i purchased a b&m short shifter and some shift bushings to help stiffen her up. At first it was great short shifts and smooth as silk. Then things started to pop up like missing third, and gears grinding a little from 2 to 3. Then i take her out one night, stop at a light, and its like i have no gears!!!!! Couldnt for the life of me gat any gear what so ever its like the cables were stuck or something finally i find third and just barely make it home. I took it to a mechanis he drove it around and i dont know how but he fixed it, he said it might be the shifter. So i take the car apart and there it is, the bolt holding the stick to the shifter is loose, well i tried and tried but coudnt get that sucker to tighten up right. So im like screw it bought an obx shifter and installed it. It seemed like this would fix my problem, i took it out and it felt good. UNTIL it happend the exact same thing no gear put third limped home and there she sets. I just cant figure it out i thinks it has something to do with the cables.Im taking it back to the mechanis tomorrow i just wanted to see what you guys think. Any help would be greatly appreciated hope this post isnt too long lol.
