polution control

so I have just started putting on ym headers tonight and my dad might sell me his carb, cam, intake, and heads from his 350 chev...of course in order to use these parts I would have to rip out most of my polution control....I had intentions of doing this anyways...but I was wondering, does having the polution control ON make your mpg worse or better?

Kyle

Re: polution control

I think MPG better, performance worse. Always a give and take with those two

i have a true life story concerning that. i had my bolt in and go crate 350 in my caprice started for first time 8 months ago. i had all the emissions crap. like everything head to toe. i ppassed emissions easily. but i could hardly burn out. my 1/4 times were well into the 16's. i got spanked by everyone. i dropped motor into my camaro and i took off all emissions stuff and just ran old style everything no egr no smog no cats (yet) i will eventually run a cat. but anyways as soon as i started the motor up for first time. it revved a ton faster, pulled twice as hard felt like it should have when it was rated bare at 270 hp(just stock engine) but with emissions and all that it bogged down to about 200. i estimate my 1/4 mile times dropped drasticly and i realize the camaro is lighter but it wouldnt make THAT as much of a diff. as i felt emissions i realize are important but are a joke when it comes to performance. id say do it if u want the most hp

well my AC hasn't been working for years so we decided to rip all the AC crap out, the pump and gas (gas was completly empty by the way) and while we were at that we took of a couple polution control components out, 1 or 2, not all of them yet.

Oh yeah, and now that the AC pump is not longer on there i don't need the belt to run off the power steering pump, so one less belt might free up a pony or two
