Question coolant light

'97 sable: coolant light comes on but it has plenty of fluid in
reservoire. temp guage is reading normal..it does move down when stopped and up to normal levl after runnning a while...car is not overheating..what could cause this???

Bad sensor in reservoir. If you check your coolant regularly anyway, just disconnect the wire on the bottom, that's what I've done. These coolant level sensors go bad in a few years, I had three different makes of cars on which they went bad between 28K to 60K miles. They're just a gimmick as far as I'm concerned.

Yup.. Same here. Went belly up with 38K on it. just disconnected it and all is well.

surprisingly i have 96 vulcan 3.0 with 130xxx miles & with a coolant reservoir that is regularly empty,(have put almost 800 miles without heating) but no "empty coolant light." i had my mechanic take a look at it and he suggested to change the reservoir as this is a common problem in Taurus/sables. any advice will be appreciated .thanks,
