CAI noise

Could someone describe the noise that you would expect to hear from a CAI?

The reason I ask it that last week when I installed 3.4 pulley, I had a little mishap with the bearings. I am an idiot and managed to knock them out. I didnt notice much noise from it... Actually less noise because I put new coupler on.

Anyway, with the CAI installed, I can hear what resembles grinding bearings through it. I am hoping its nothing, but I would like to hear you all what your experiences have been with this.

So... That's normal huh? I can't say I am a big fan of it. When it first starts it sounds like metal crushing more metal, fingernails on chalkboard, engine with no oil.... No fix ? maybe one of those sock covers for the filter?

Re: CAI noise

The only way to fix it...

Put the stock box on. Till then, you will have family and friends tell you there's something wrong.

Enjoy

Last question, would a higer quality filter dampen the noise? My filter is cheap crap.

Just a random comment, when I punch it, it sounds like a giant kazoo

Thanks again Larry!

Re: CAI noise

Thank you so much for this post, i was about to ask you all same question. I live in michigan and my parents car and my hibernating Z4 hog all the garage space, so i noticed same thing, whenver i start my car up it has a bad grinding sound, i dont even have a true CAI, just a K&N open cone filter on it. Sorry i haven't been around lately to debate with you Kid, back to college, and that Ham and Cheese sub is going to have to wait

Re: Re: CAI noise

Oh sure. You just don't want to buy me a sub. One of the things I miss about Michigan is Tubby subs. That an Coney's. Food sucks down here. Debate, HA HA

Sorry so late. Mine makes the same noise. You'll get used to it. Spring and summer will be here soon.
